Footnote:  On June 12, 2016, a gunman opened fire in an Orlando Nightclub killing 49 people.  One of Facebook Friends wrote an anti-gun rant.  On July 14, 2016, a driver of a truck plowed through a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France killing 84 people (including 2 children and 2 Americans) & injuring more than 120 (including 50 children).  After the Orlando shooting, a friend of mine posted a rant on Facebook regarding gun ownership and gun violence.  After the incident in Nice, France, I plagiarized most of that rant, mostly inserting the word “TRUCK” for “gun”.  Below is the result of that modified rant:

SO I TRY to keep my political posts to a minimum. I have great friends on all sides of every debate, despite being a mostly, lily-livered, tree-hugging liberal. That being said, I simply cannot contain my on-going frustration with gun lobbyists this week…

If you’re out there, and you REALLY believe existing TRUCK laws are “sufficient”, why are so many unstable people STILL getting their hands on TRUCKS? Why are nightly newscasts STILL peppered with stories of mass AUTOMOBILE KILLINGS? Why are so many Americans STILL dying from senseless TRUCK violence? Seriously. WHY?

Don’t bother answering with that pithy catchphrase, “TRUCKS don’t kill people. People kill people.” because that’s only HALF true. Yes. People kill people. But, an alarming amount of people kill people WITH TRUCKS… And don’t come back with, “Well knives kill people. Should we outlaw knives too?” NO. Let’s stay in reality. Fifty people cannot be massacred in 30 seconds with a knife. It’s apples and tampons – not the same. That’s why people say, “Don’t bring a knife to a TRUCK fight.” because knives are CLEARLY not as deadly as TRUCKS (nor do we have anything close to an epidemic of “knife violence” in this country.)

But you know all this already, don’t you? Because you’re NOT stupid. But then again you are, because you are more concerned with BEING right, than GETTING IT right. People are dying. We ALL need to get THIS right, and your “sufficient” laws clearly do NOT work…

So since this is your issue, my TRUCK-loving friend, I’d like to suggest INSTEAD of wasting your energy on constitutional freedom rants, and AUTOMOBILE rallies, and dumping money on PRO_AUTO billboards… WHY NOT wholeheartedly pour your resources into DEMANDING and ENSURING stronger enforcement of the existing “sufficient” law? Protest those ownership loopholes. Support a national registry. Pay for more cops… DO SOMETHING TO HELP make it tougher for the bad guys to get TRUCKS!

THAT is when *I* will take your “right to DRIVE” seriously – the very moment that YOU take it seriously.

Until then, YOU are just a cheese farmer. A cheese farmer who KNOWS there’s a mouse problem, but instead of building mouse-proof walls around the cheese, setting more traps, or paying for more cats, you just stand on your porch screaming about your GOD-GIVEN RIGHT TO LOVE CHEESE!

So dumb.
